Asher Smiley is an independent art conservator currently based in London and San Francisco. Specialisms include animal skins, leather, parchment, paper restoration work, safe storage solutions and display.

 

Having worked on a broad range of objects including recent work with a 20th century Persian calligraphy on wood (see Portfolio for other work on paintings, leather, parchment, paper etc), Asher's experience also ranges to the less common such as being involved with the restoration of a 1913 Cadillac (pictured working at the Oakland Museum, Summer 2009).

Asher trained at Camberwell College of Art from where he holds both a BA and MA (merit) in Conservation. Work history includes UCL special books collection, the Stanley Kubrick archive, the V&A and the Oakland Museum.
